PRIVACY POLICY

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 28, 2026
Last Updated: May 28, 2026 — added Meta Pixel for ad attribution, UTM parameter capture for paid-traffic signups, and a cookie consent banner.

HuntingSeason.com (“HuntingSeason,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect information when you visit HuntingSeason.com and use our Services.

By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Scope of This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through:

  • Our website, HuntingSeason.com
  • Our user accounts and property management tools (food plot planner, property mapping)
  • Our browser-based game (“Hunting Homestead”)
  • Our deals aggregation service
  • Our newsletter subscription service
  • Email and other communications you send to us

This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party websites, apps, services, or platforms that we do not control, even if they are linked from our Services (including state wildlife agency websites and third-party retailer websites linked from our deals page).

2. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide Directly

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide:

  • Email address — when you subscribe to our newsletter or create a user account
  • Password — when you create a user account (stored as a cryptographic hash; we never store or have access to your plain-text password)
  • Messages or feedback — if you contact us via email

We do not collect your name, phone number, mailing address, or payment information unless you voluntarily provide it in correspondence with us.

B. Account and Property Data

If you create a user account and use our property management tools, we collect and store the following data that you provide:

  • Property information — property name, state, approximate acreage, and map center coordinates (latitude/longitude) and zoom level
  • Pin locations — latitude/longitude coordinates, type (e.g., tree stand, trail camera), labels, and notes for markers you place on your property map
  • Food plot boundaries — polygon coordinates you draw on the map and the calculated acreage
  • Planting plans — crop selections, seed and fertilizer calculations, cost estimates, and plan status

This data is stored in our Supabase database and protected by row-level security policies — only you can access your own property data. We present your property on a satellite map provided by MapTiler; your property coordinates are sent to MapTiler to render map tiles. We do not share your property data with any other third parties.

You must provide affirmative consent before creating your first property. You can delete all your property data and account at any time from your account dashboard or by emailing info@huntingseason.com.

C. Referral Program Data

When you subscribe to our newsletter, we automatically generate a unique referral code linked to your account. If you share your referral link and someone subscribes through it, we collect and store the following to operate the referral program and prevent fraud:

  • Referral code — a randomly generated code assigned to your subscription
  • Referral relationship — which subscriber referred which new subscriber
  • IP address — collected at the time of a referred signup and stored in our database for fraud detection (e.g., detecting multiple signups from the same IP address)
  • Fraud prevention flags — automated assessments such as velocity checks and IP clustering, used solely to prevent referral abuse

Referral IP addresses are used exclusively for fraud prevention and are not used for tracking, advertising, or profiling. The referral program uses URL parameters (not cookies) to attribute referrals — no cookies are set on referred visitors.

D. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

We use your browser's localStorage (not cookies) to store the following on your device:

  • Theme preference — whether you have selected dark or light mode
  • Game save data — your Hunting Homestead game progress, including scores and leaderboard data
  • Privacy consent flag — a record that you consented to property data collection (no personal data is stored in this flag)

This data is stored entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.

E. Cookies

Our website uses two categories of cookies:

Strictly necessary cookies (always set):

  • Administrative cookie — an httpOnly cookie set only when an administrator logs into the admin dashboard, containing a cryptographically signed session token
  • User session cookies — set when you sign in to your user account, used by our authentication provider (Supabase) to maintain your logged-in session. These cookies contain encrypted session tokens and are required for the property management features to work.
  • Cookie consent flag — when you make a choice on our cookie banner, your preference is stored in your browser's localStorage so we don't show the banner again. This is stored on your device, not on our servers.

Advertising cookies (only set after you accept on the cookie banner):

  • Meta Pixel cookies (_fbp, _fbc) — set by Meta's tracking pixel to measure the performance of our Facebook and Instagram ads. _fbp is a first-party cookie that identifies your browser to Meta. _fbc is set only if you arrived via a Facebook ad click. These cookies are NOT set if you decline cookies on the banner. See Section 2K below for full details on Meta Pixel.

Strictly necessary cookies are required for the site to function and are set without consent. Advertising cookies require your affirmative consent via the banner before any data is collected or transmitted.

F. Information Collected by Our Hosting Provider

Our website is hosted on Vercel. Like most web hosting services, Vercel may automatically collect standard server logs, which can include:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages visited and referring URLs
  • Date and time of access

This information is collected by Vercel as part of standard web hosting operations. We do not use this data for tracking, profiling, or advertising. See Vercel's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle server log data.

G. Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service provided by our hosting platform, to understand how visitors use our website. Vercel Analytics collects:

  • Page views (which pages are visited)
  • Custom events related to game usage (e.g., game started, hunt completed) — these events contain no personal information, only aggregate gameplay actions
  • Custom events related to the food plot planner funnel (e.g., calculator used, signup started, property created) — these events track only the action type, with no personal information, account details, or property data

Vercel Analytics does not use cookies, does not collect IP addresses, and does not track users across websites. All data is aggregated and anonymous. See Vercel Analytics Privacy Policy for details.

H. Affiliate Click Tracking

When you click an affiliate link on HuntingSeason.com (e.g., “Where to Buy” buttons in the food plot planner), we log the following to our database:

  • The product type and product identifier (e.g., which seed product was clicked)
  • The page you clicked from
  • Your user ID (if you are signed in) or no user identifier (if you are not signed in)

This data is used to understand which product recommendations are most useful and to measure affiliate program performance. We do not share individual click data with advertisers or third parties.

I. Google Sign-In

If you choose to sign in or create an account using Google, we receive your email address and basic profile information (name, profile picture URL) from Google via their OAuth 2.0 service. We use this information solely to create and authenticate your account. We do not receive or store your Google password. See Google's Privacy Policy for details on how Google handles your data during sign-in.

J. What We Do NOT Collect

To be clear about what we do not do:

  • We do not use Google Analytics or any personally-identifying analytics service
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with data brokers
  • We do not set advertising cookies without your affirmative consent on the cookie banner (see Section 2E and 2K)
  • We do not automatically collect your device's GPS location — the only location data we store is coordinates you manually set when positioning your property on the map
  • We do not fingerprint your device or use canvas/audio fingerprinting techniques on our own surface

K. Meta Pixel (Facebook/Instagram Ad Attribution)

When you affirmatively accept cookies on the cookie banner, we load Meta's tracking pixel (also called the Facebook Pixel) so we can measure whether our Facebook and Instagram ad campaigns are working. The pixel collects:

  • Page view event — the URL of the page you visited on HuntingSeason.com
  • Lead event — sent when you successfully subscribe to our newsletter
  • Standard browser data — your IP address, browser type, referrer URL, and the Meta-set cookies (_fbp, and _fbc if you arrived from a Facebook ad)
  • UTM parameters — if you arrived from a tagged ad link, the campaign source/medium/campaign/content/term values from the URL

This data is sent to Meta Platforms, Inc. Meta uses it to attribute conversions to specific ads, optimize ad delivery, and build advertising audiences. Meta may correlate this data with your Facebook or Instagram account if you have one.

Limited Data Use: We have enabled Meta's Limited Data Use (LDU) flag with auto-geolocation. This means Meta restricts how it processes your data if you are a resident of California, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut, Utah, or another US state with applicable consumer privacy laws — even if you accepted on the cookie banner. Specifically, Meta will not use your data for building advertising audiences or for cross-site retargeting if you reside in one of these states.

How to opt out: You have three options:

  • Click “Reject all” on the cookie consent banner — the pixel never loads, no data is sent to Meta.
  • Already accepted? Clear your browser's localStorage for huntingseason.com to bring the banner back, then choose “Reject all.”
  • Use a browser-level tracking protection (Brave, Firefox Strict, Safari ITP) or a content blocker (uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger) — these block Meta Pixel network requests entirely.

For details on how Meta handles pixel data, see Meta's Privacy Policy and Meta's Pixel documentation.

L. Newsletter Signup Attribution (UTM Parameters)

When you subscribe to our newsletter via a link that contains UTM parameters (for example, a Facebook ad URL), we capture and store those parameters with your subscription record to measure which campaigns produce subscribers:

  • utm_source — the platform that drove the click (e.g., “fb”)
  • utm_medium — the type of marketing (e.g., “cpc”)
  • utm_campaign — the specific campaign identifier
  • utm_content and utm_term — optional creative + keyword identifiers

These values are stored as custom attributes on your subscriber record in Brevo (our email service) and in the source column of our Supabase database. They are first-party data you provide by clicking the tagged link — no cookies are required for this attribution. We use this data internally to measure ad performance; we do not share it with third parties beyond our service providers.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To deliver our newsletter with hunting deals, season alerts, and gear recommendations
  • To aggregate and display hunting-related deals from third-party retailers
  • To create and manage your user account, including authentication and session management
  • To provide the property management tools, including property mapping, pin placement, food plot planning, and seed/fertilizer calculations
  • To render satellite map imagery for your properties via our map tile provider (MapTiler)
  • To track affiliate link clicks to measure product recommendation usefulness
  • To operate our referral program, including tracking referral relationships and preventing fraudulent signups
  • To respond to your questions, comments, or support requests
  • To understand how visitors use our website and game through anonymous, aggregated analytics
  • To operate, maintain, and improve the Services
  • To comply with legal obligations

4. How We Share Information

Newsletter Service Provider (Brevo): When you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is shared with Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), our email delivery service, for the purpose of sending newsletter emails. See Brevo's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle subscriber data.

Database Provider (Supabase): Your email address is also stored in our Supabase database for subscriber management. See Supabase's Privacy Policy for details.

Analytics Provider (Vercel): We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data (page views and game events). Vercel Analytics does not use cookies, does not collect IP addresses, and does not track individual users. See Vercel's Analytics Privacy Policy for details.

Map Tile Provider (MapTiler): When you use the property mapping features, your property's map coordinates are sent to MapTiler to load satellite imagery tiles. MapTiler may collect standard request data (IP address, request headers) as part of serving map tiles. We do not send your property name, pin data, or any other property details to MapTiler — only the geographic coordinates needed to render the map. See MapTiler's Privacy Policy for details.

Authentication Provider (Google): If you choose to sign in with Google, your authentication is handled through Google's OAuth 2.0 service. We receive only your email address and basic profile information. We do not send any of your HuntingSeason.com data to Google. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.

AI Processing (Anthropic): We use Anthropic's Claude AI to help process and categorize publicly available deal information from third-party retailer websites. No personal user data is sent to Anthropic. Only publicly available product listings are processed. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy for details.

Ad Attribution (Meta): If you accept cookies on our consent banner AND we are running paid Facebook/Instagram ads at the time, Meta Pixel sends Meta page-view and lead-conversion events along with standard browser metadata (IP, browser type, referrer) plus its own cookies. We have enabled Meta's Limited Data Use (LDU) flag with auto-geolocation so that California, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut, and Utah residents are protected by their state privacy laws even after accepting cookies. See Section 2K above for full details and Meta's Privacy Policy.

Legal Compliance: We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, court order, or governmental request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, or property.

Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, sale, acquisition, or transfer of all or part of our business or assets, subscriber information may be transferred to the acquiring entity.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

5. Data Retention

We retain your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to our newsletter. If you unsubscribe, your email address will be removed from our active mailing list.

If you create a user account, we retain your account data (email, authentication credentials) and all associated property data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the “Delete My Data” option in your account dashboard. When you delete your account, all properties, pins, food plots, planting plans, and affiliate click history are permanently and immediately removed from our systems.

We may retain certain records as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as legal compliance or dispute resolution).

6. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. Our database access is protected by row-level security policies. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Privacy Rights

A. All Users

Regardless of your location, you may:

  • Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by emailing info@huntingseason.com
  • Delete your account and all data at any time using the “Delete My Data” option on your account dashboard at /my-property — this permanently deletes your account, all properties, pins, food plots, planting plans, and affiliate click history
  • Request deletion of your data by emailing info@huntingseason.com if you prefer not to use the self-service option
  • Clear game data stored locally by clearing your browser's localStorage

B. U.S. State Privacy Rights

If you are a resident of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, or another state with applicable privacy laws, you may have additional rights, including:

  • The right to know what personal information we have collected about you
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information
  • The right to correct inaccurate personal information
  • The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — however, we do not sell or share personal information for advertising
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@huntingseason.com. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

C. California-Specific Disclosures (CCPA/CPRA)

In the preceding 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information:

  • Identifiers: email address (from newsletter signups and account creation), IP address (from referred signups for fraud prevention; from Meta Pixel page-view events if you accept cookies), Meta Pixel cookie identifiers (_fbp, _fbc) if you accept cookies and visit during an active ad campaign
  • Internet or network activity: anonymous, aggregated page view and funnel event data (Vercel Analytics); affiliate click logs (product type, source page); UTM campaign source/medium/campaign attached to newsletter signups (if you arrived via a tagged ad link); Meta Pixel page-view and lead-conversion events (only if you accept cookies)
  • Geolocation data: property center coordinates, pin coordinates, and food plot polygon coordinates that you manually provide through our mapping tools (we do not collect GPS or device location automatically); approximate geolocation derived by Meta from your IP address for Limited Data Use enforcement (only if you accept cookies)
  • Commercial information: newsletter subscription status, account creation timestamp, attribution source (which campaign you came from, if any)

We collect this information directly from you when you subscribe, create an account, use our property management tools, or click a paid-ad link. We use it to deliver our newsletter, operate your account, provide the property mapping and food plot planning features, and measure the performance of our paid advertising campaigns. We share email addresses with our email service provider (Brevo) for email delivery, map coordinates with MapTiler for satellite imagery, and (if you accept cookies during an active ad campaign) page-view + conversion events with Meta for ad attribution.

We do not sell personal information. California-resident traffic from Meta Pixel is automatically marked Limited Data Use, meaning Meta is contractually restricted from using the data for cross-context behavioral advertising or audience building under CPRA. If you want to opt out entirely, click “Reject all” on our cookie consent banner — no data will be sent to Meta at all.

8. CAN-SPAM Compliance

Our newsletter emails comply with the CAN-SPAM Act. Every email includes our physical mailing address and a clear unsubscribe mechanism. We honor unsubscribe requests promptly. We do not use deceptive subject lines or misleading header information.

9. Children's Privacy

Our Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The only personal information we collect (email address via newsletter signup) requires affirmative action by the user. If you believe a child under 13 has subscribed to our newsletter, please contact us so we can remove their information.

10. Third-Party Links, Deal Aggregation, and Affiliate Disclosure

Our Services contain links to state wildlife agency websites, third-party retailer websites, and other resources. Our deals page displays publicly available product and pricing information from third-party retailers and links directly to their websites for purchases. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, pricing, availability, or content of those sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with personal information or making purchases.

Affiliate Disclosure: Some links on HuntingSeason.com, including links on our deals page and in our newsletter, are affiliate links. This means that if you click through and make a purchase, HuntingSeason.com may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence which deals we feature or how we present them — our editorial selections are based solely on value to our readers. We are a participant in affiliate programs with various retailers and may earn advertising fees by linking to their sites and products.

11. International Users

HuntingSeason.com is operated from the United States and is primarily intended for users in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.

12. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Our analytics provider (Vercel Analytics) is anonymous and aggregated — it does not identify or follow individual users.

Meta Pixel is the only cross-site tracking technology on HuntingSeason.com. It is consent-gated: it only loads if you click “Accept all” on our cookie consent banner. If you have not granted consent, Meta Pixel does not load and no data is sent to Meta.

We honor opt-outs in this order of preference: (1) clicking “Reject all” on our cookie consent banner is the most reliable way to opt out — the pixel never loads. (2) For users in California, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut, Utah, and other US states with applicable privacy laws, Meta's Limited Data Use flag is automatically applied based on the geolocation of your IP, restricting Meta's processing even if you accepted cookies. (3) We do not currently respond to the legacy Do Not Track header (browser support has been deprecated by most major browsers) or the newer Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, but we plan to add GPC support in a future update.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the Effective Date above. If changes are material, we may notify newsletter subscribers via email. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you acknowledge the revised Privacy Policy.
